About the judge

This month, due to circumstances, the club had two guest judges. One for the digital competition and one for print.

The guest judge for this month’s digital competition was David Steele. After his success with nine coffee-table books reaching more than 50 editions in Africa, Europe and America, together with his pioneering work in the South African photo-agency industry, David became a professional photographer in 1986 when one of his portfolios was accepted by his peers at the South African Institute of Photographers. Photography and cinematography remains a passion of his to this day and he currently supplies high quality travel and nature related images and video clips to a number of photographic agencies. David is a member of Westside Photography Club and is part of the team in the recently formed Western Australia Photographic Judges Association (WAPJA).

The guest judge for this month’s print competition was Barry Richards. Barry is a retired scientist who enjoys photography and travel (when permitted). He is Competition Director and Past-President of the Melville Photography Club, and President and Life member of the WA Photographic Judges Association. He has judged at local, state and national levels and is also a member of the Australian Photographic Judges Association. He enjoys photography as a tool with which to create art and subscribes to the idea that a photograph is something you can hold in your hands.
