Monthly competition scoring system

Points awarded for entries in all categories each month are as follows:

Gold 5 points
Silver 3 points
Bronze 2 points
Non-winning entry 1 point

A record of the total points awarded will be maintained by the competition director for each of the four competition categories (digital /open, digital/set subject, print/open and print/set subject).

All monthly scores are collected and published in the club newsletter Freographic. The last to final monthly scores are not published and held over for the final awards night in December.

Print photographer of the year and digital image photographer of the year will be determined based on the sum total of all competition points allocated to each member’s entries throughout the year in both open and set subject competitions.

Individual digital and print of the year awards:
Winners can only be selected from the digital images and prints that have been submitted in the monthly competitions throughout the year.

Members are able to choose their final submission prior to the awards evening. All digital images that are to be judged for the digital image of the year award will be submitted to the competition director at least one week prior to the awards evening. An email will be forwarded to all members advising of the submission date. All prints entries that are to be judged for the print of the year award should be submitted for judging on the night of the awards evening.

People's choice monthly award

To add some incentive for members to print their images, in 2023 the committee decided to introduce a members’ choice award for each of the monthly print categories.

Members will have the opportunity to vote anonymously for their favourite print of the evening (select one image in either open or set subject) and submit their vote prior to the judging of those categories.  Members cannot vote for their own image. These votes will be accumulated and a people’s choice award will be given to the member with the highest number of votes at the end of the year awards evening.
