Competition rules

Monthly club competition

Competitions are an excellent way of honing skills and improving photographic perception. Members are encouraged to produce new work for set subject competitions.

The following is a summary of the official Club Rules. A PDF version is available by clicking on the link.

Competition entry requirements

Only financial members of the Fremantle Camera Club are eligible to enter monthly competitons.

Members may submit one entry in each of the four competitions: Print open and subject; Digital open and subject.

All prints and images must be the original work of the member, but may be digitally enhanced. No part can be copied or imported from any other source other than the member’s original work.

Prints or images that have been awarded gold or silver in any monthly competition may not be entered in any further competitions. Similarly, images that come very close to resembling a previous gold or silver awarded entry are ineligible or entry in any section. Any print or image awarded a bronze, or is unplaced, may be re-entered in one subsequent competition.

Competition sections

Entries may be submitted in the following four competition sections in either colour or monochrome. Monochrome means just one colour, typically seen as being black and white or grey-scale. But it can be depicted by using shades of another colour, e.g. brown (sepia).

  • Print: open and set subject
  • Digital image: open and set subject

That is, in each photographic section (print and digital) there are two competitions.

Upcoming set subjects and their definitions are found on the Competition/set subject page.

Prints

Print entries must be properly secured to an appropriate backing of either cardboard or foam core.  The maximum print size that can be entered (including matt and backing) is 40 x 50cms. There is no minimum size. N.B. 40 x 50cms is the maximum mount size for entries in all WAPF and national competitions.

The maximum thickness of an entry (including print, matt and backing) is 5mmA label that includes the following relevant information: image title_open / subject_member number_ member’s name e.g. Starry Night_open_123_Kim Smith must be attached on the reverse side of each print in the top left hand corner of the mount board. N.B. This labelling format follows national competition rules to ensure that the print is mounted the correct way when displayed, especially when the print is of an abstract nature. Members name must also be included on prints to make it easier to return prints.

Digital images

The maximum digital image size (width x height) is 1920 x 1080 pixels. A different ratio may be applied (eg for square or letterbox sizes) provided the maximum limits are not exceeded. There is no limit on resolution.

Each digital image must be submitted as a JPEG file (*.jpg) and in sRGB profile.

Each digital image must have the following file title format of image title_open / subject_member number.jpg e.g. Snowflakes_subject_123.jpg.
